Program Description

On this degree you will learn key biological concepts that are fundamental to understanding, investigating and treating human disease. You will begin by studying general biology, human anatomy and physiology, microbiology and cellular and molecular biology, which will give you a solid foundation of knowledge on which to build.

You will go on to develop an understanding of the diagnostic techniques used in modern professional practice and learn about the biomedical disciplines, which include haematology and transfusion science, clinical biochemistry, cellular pathology, medical genetics, medical microbiology and clinical immunology.

For students who have citizens' rights after Brexit tuition fees are £9,250 per year.

  • International Advanced Levels (A Levels).
  • BTEC Extended Diplomas in Applied Science, Applied Science (Forensic Science), Applied Science (Biomedical Science) and Applied Science (Medical Science) only are accepted for entry to this course.
  • HNC qualifications in a related subject.
  • HND qualifications in a related subject.

Alternative English language requirements:

  • Our preferred tests are IELTS, TOEFL iBT (80 overall and a minimum of 17 in Writing and Listening, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking) and Pearson PTE ( 57 overall and a minimum of 51 in all components), so we recommend you take one of these if possible. We also recognise the following qualifications/tests:
  1. Trinity College: Integrated Skills in English (ISE)
  2. LanguageCert International ESOL SELT tests
  3. International English Language Competency Assessment (IELCA)

Important Information:

  • International Baccalaureate Diploma must include Biology at Higher level.
  • If you don't meet our English language requirements, we offer a range of courses which could help you achieve the level required for entry. We also provide our own English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT) in the UK and overseas.
  • If you've completed study at university level in the UK or your home country you may be eligible to enter directly into Year 2 or 3 of a related degree course at ARU.
