Program Description

While the primary area of specialization may vary, comprehensive coursework in the study of music theory, ear-training, keyboard proficiency, music history, arranging, conducting, audio production and business relations serves as an integral part of both programs.

Unlike other Bachelor of Music programs, Musicians Institute’s curriculum includes in-depth study of both traditional and contemporary techniques relating to performance, songwriting, composition, and songwriting and production. We welcome student musicians interested in a wide variety of styles, our goal being to prepare all graduates for successfully navigating the ever-changing environment that is today’s music industry.

The Bachelor of Songwriting and Production at Musicians Institute is designed to create versatile and functioning songwriters in today’s modern music industry.

Learning Outcomes

  • Compose and arrange within various genres of contemporary music including: Pop, Rock & Roll, Rhythm & Blues/Funk, Latin, Jazz, and Country while exhibiting stylistic authenticity, lyric-writing ability and originality.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive technical, reading and performing abilities as they pertain to the aforementioned styles within the specified area of instrumental concentration.
  • Demonstrate proper application of audio production techniques including: microphone placement, live tracking, audio-editing, mixing and mastering along with showcasing leadership skills as applied to problem solving within a recording studio environment.
  • Demonstrate substantive knowledge within supportive areas including: music history, theory and composition (traditional and contemporary), arranging, conducting (traditional and contemporary), ear-training, keyboard and guitar proficiency.
  • Demonstrate technological proficiency within the areas of music notation, recording, performance and music business.
  • Exhibit personal and artistic growth and leadership skills as a team-oriented songwriter and producer of contemporary musical styles along with the ability to further develop an organizational foundation for well-rounded self-study
