Program Description

The bachelor in Interior Design (BA) provides students with a comprehensive set of skills to prepare for a career in interior design. The course provides a strong grounding in key conceptual and technical aspects of spatial design and develops creative thinking, self-expression, and a capacity for independent learning.

Furthermore, the bachelor in Interior Design (BA) focuses on the interior design studio and encompasses courses in other subject areas such as history and theory, technology, environment, and visual communication.

Learning Outcomes

  • Recognise, interpret and evaluate theories and historical trends in relation to the discipline of Interior Architecture and Design, Architecture and related Arts, Technology and Human Sciences.
  • Recognise, identify, analyse, and apply design and programmatic scenarios.
  • Combine effectively methods of abstraction and conceptualization, creative and critical thinking, as well as integration of information and problem solving methods, either individually, or as a member of a team.
  • Recognise and demonstrate social, ethical, environmental, professional and cultural principles involved in the design field.
  • Develop insight in the profession of the Interior Designer and his/her role in society, while keeping in tune with current developments in the discipline.
  • Demonstrate time management, decision making and organizational skills in relation to managerial and legal aspects and ability to apply hierarchy and structure to information in written and drawn work.
  • Classify and identify building materials, finishes and their characteristics, architectural construction and technical systems.
  • Competently apply health and safety regulations and procedures and secure the well-being of building inhabitants and users.
  • Apply research methods to review and critique both written assignments and project proposals.
  • Apply visual communication skills and representation techniques, as well as written and verbal communication skills in order to communicate propositions effectively
