Program Description

If you're interested in careers in research science, scientific policy, science communication, science education, biomedical sales, and more, the Master of Science in Multidisciplinary Biomedical Science (MBS) might be for you. This program is intended for domestic and international students that have some undergraduate STEM field training and wish to increase their knowledge of biomedical sciences.

We offer an exciting, innovative curriculum. A wide range of elective classes are offered through several STEM-themed disciplines that cater to a wide array of career trajectories. Concentrations are available in many scientific disciplines unique to Masters programs in Alabama including: Genetics and Genomic Sciences; Neuroscience; Pharmacology; Bioinformatics (fall 2019); and Immunology (fall 2019). Courses are also available through UAB Graduate School’s Professional Development Program (PDP), including the required “Critical Thinking and Scientific Integrity.”

Thesis (Plan I): 45 Credit hours - $51.345 total fee
Non-Thesis (Plan II): 30 Credit hours - $34.230 total fee

Curriculum

Thesis (Plan I)

Plan I students must complete the following required classes:

core science

critical thinking

biostatistics or equivalent with permission

three semesters of colloquium

three-four semesters of non-thesis research

one-two semesters of thesis research

electives


Students have the option of earning a concentration by completing their elective credit hours in a single subject area.


Research

Non-Thesis (Plan II)

Plan II students must complete the following required classes:

core science

critical thinking

biostatistics or equivalent with permission

colloquium

electives
