Program Description

The main purpose of the master in Health Care Management (Online) (MSc) is to prepare executives with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage health units.

Through education, graduates will acquire the necessary skills to be able to formulate and make decisions that are rationally based and socio-culturally acceptable. An additional purpose of the master in Health Care Management (Online) (MSc) is to promote science and research in the field of health and health services and to cultivate an interdisciplinary approach to these issues.

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  • Be aware of the specificity of exercising administration in an area where health professionals produce and offer their services, attempting to restore people’s health.
  • Understand the institutional context within which the principles of management are exercised to achieve acceptable solutions that maximise social benefit.
  • Discern the need for public intervention in the organisation and administration of health services.
  • Understand health policy as a subset of social policy.
  • Have a good understanding of the historical development of the NHS, its problems and its prospects in relation to the economic, social and health care environment of our country.
  • Be aware that the level of health of the population is a function of many factors, not only of the health services provided or the way in which health services are organised.
  • Understand that public financial resources should be allocated with a view to maximising the health outcome for society.
  • Be aware of the methods and techniques of economic evaluation and allocation of resources with a view to achieving equity, efficiency and effectiveness in the health system.
  • Know the methods of effective financing of the health system and its providers.
  • Apply techniques of financial and economic analysis and management of hospital units.
  • Understand the different behavioural patterns of health service use and the patterns of the doctor-patient relationship that develops within the health system.
  • Apply different models for the study and understanding of behavioural issues in disease prevention
  • Design effective interventions aimed at reducing burnout in the health care sector
  • Use basic concepts to study team dynamics
  • Describe how culture influences the use of health services
  • Understand the experience of chronic illness and the losses that accompany it.
  • Design interventions to improve health services and user satisfaction.
  • Know the principles of scientific research methodology and select the appropriate research method for each case.
