Program Description

The course graduates hold the degree of Master of Arts in Linguistics with Specialization in Translation and Interpreting for Public Services and Institutions (further- TIPSI). They provide efficient mediation between representatives of different countries, cultures, and speakers of different languages in the administrative, healthcare, legal, educational areas.

The course graduates are qualified to render language and culture assistance for those who need language support in the above-mentioned domains. Translation and interpreting for public services and institutions are one of the core issues when ensuring the language rights of foreigners who stay in a country as tourists, invited specialists, migrants, refugees, etc.

Curriculum

Academic Process

The TIPSI program is taught in English. The possible working languages pairs include English/Russian/French/ Spanish/ German. Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean can be offered upon students' choice. These languages are taught by native speakers.

Students gain theoretical and applied knowledge of language development and use in multilingual social and institutional settings, develop translation and interpreting skills in administrative, healthcare, legal, educational areas, learn nuances of cross-cultural communication ethics and behavior models in societal domains under study, get familiar with multilingual corpuses, digital resources and remote interpreting technologies for TIPSI, practice simultaneous interpreting in the booth.

Practice

While studying, students have the opportunity to select traineeship programs and summer schools in Austria, Belgium, China, France, Korea, the UK.

Graduate students can do final internship programs on translation and interpreting at Moscow-based government and corporate institutions.

Careers

Graduates have multidisciplinary competences to manage multilingual cross-cultural communication in diverse institutional settings, balance national public needs and non-native speakers' language rights within country-specific administrative, healthcare, legal, educational settings.

Currently, internationally acknowledged employers of the program graduates include Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, Moscow-based International Center of Healthcare Service for Foreign Citizents, etc.
