Program Description

The objective of the undergraduate program in sociology is to bring up individuals who will be aware of the problems in society, have a critical point of view and a capacity of doing research, caring about solutions and evaluating the results. Therefore, they will not only have a chance to take effective roles in setting up the future but also will be able to catch the opportunity to find satisfactory jobs in the working fields such as universities, education and research centers, health, law and security both in private and state sectors.

The aim of Maltepe University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Sociology is to raise the knowledge of the students on the interaction between people and society by both theoretical and practical studies each semester. During the progression process, students will learn how to analytically look at social structure, change and the creation and future of modern society.

Learning Outcomes

  • Learns about which concepts sociology generates knowledge with and knows what the knowledge generated with these concepts refer to in social reality.
  • Learns about the advantages of sociological point of view and its ways of assessment.
  • Defines fundamental sociological problems and obtains problem solving skills both as an individual and as a team member.
  • Discusses sociological perspectives through a critical point of view and determines knowledge and application deficiencies.
