The Bachelor in Social Sciences program at Charles University is based on an interdisciplinary approach to developing students' analytical skills in the social sciences.
While individual courses are grounded in disciplines (sociology, public policy, media studies, political science, social anthropology, economics, environmentalism), the main direction of instruction is to explore current issues that are transdisciplinary in nature, such as coping with complexity, governance, mediatization of social relationships or the interaction between society, technology and the natural environment.
Primarily, the Bachelor in Social Sciences program focuses on current transdisciplinary issues such as complexity management, governance, mediatisation of social relations or the interdependence of society, technology and the natural environment. Secondly, social research methodology is stressed as a prerequisite for students' analytical skills development and for finding practical solutions to complex issues.
Analytical and interpretative approaches are employed. Attention is particularly paid to the bachelor's thesis preparation as a way to develop soft skills and to conduct project-oriented research.
