The Bachelor in English Language and Culture (BA) at Utrecht University gives students a thorough understanding of English cultures and histories, allowing them to engage with people on a global scale.
Students will perfect their English, but they will also learn how the language actually works as a linguistic system, how the processes of learning English in the brain are different for children and adults, and how and why the language has changed over time and is used differently depending on location, or social factors like age, gender and self-identity.
The Bachelor in English Language and Culture (BA) also explores the language by analysing thought-provoking literature. English, after all, is the language of many world-famous authors past and present. Learners will study the literatures and cultures of the English-speaking world and the influences of cultural, social and political developments on the English language and its literatures and vice versa.
