English is a truly global language, the mother tongue of approximately 380 million people and spoken as a second language by over a billion more. Students of the Bachelor in English Language and Culture (BA) program at Leiden University will acquire an excellent command of spoken and written English, while also learning to understand the language structure and the mechanics behind language acquisition.
This program will give students a sound basis for further specialisation and the training of competences in the first and second year. In the third year, students will have elective options, allowing them to tailor the course to their interests. Throughout the program, students will work on their language skills, while at the same time perfecting their writing and presentation skills.
The Bachelor in English Language and Culture (BA) is unique in the Netherlands for the width of its scope. It covers English in all its varieties, from the earliest beginnings in the Middle Ages to the present day.
