Our world is deeply impacted by power relations, expectations and norms linked to, for instance, gender, sexuality, race, class and age. The Master in Gender Studies (MA) at Uppsala University gives students knowledge of and tools to analyse how gender and other power asymmetries are socially and culturally constructed, experienced and understood locally and globally.

The program has a strong research connection and brings together perspectives from various disciplines to explore topics within gender studies. Students learn to analyse constructions of gender, sexuality, race, class, age, etcetera, as well as how power operates in people's lives and the world around us. This knowledge is relevant in all areas of society since gender and other intersecting power asymmetries affect all humans and all societies around the world.

The Master in Gender Studies (MA) program includes both mandatory and elective courses. The courses are grounded in the humanities and social science traditions, but perspectives from other domains, such as the natural sciences, are also included.
