Program Description

The purpose of the Program "Physical Education and Sports Sciences" is to provide a high level academic education and applied knowledge for the vocational preparation of sports scientists and physical educators teachers, in the area of Sports, Recreation and Health.

Graduates will acquire educational skills that will enable them to successfully work in the private and public sector of exercise and sport services. The curriculum offers knowledge in the theory and practice of physical education and sports, and in fields such as training, rehabilitation, tourism, recreation and health, while encouraging the production of new knowledge. The Program "Physical Education and Sports Sciences" is in Greek and is located in Limassol.

High School Diploma (or equivalent)

Information about admission:

  • Candidates for a bachelor degree program should submit a school leaving certificate from a recognized six-form secondary school (high school) with an average grade of 75% (Greek Cypriot secondary schools) or a grade “C” or its equivalent (other secondary schools), or equivalent qualification. Candidates who submit a six-form secondary school leaving certificate but do not meet the above grade requirements may be admitted on a probationary status, if they show potential for educational advancement. The probationary status will be removed, subject to a satisfactory academic performance. Candidates admitted on probationary status may also be asked to enroll in foundation courses in order to improve their skills and/or to take reduced load.
  • A recent certificate of good conduct issued by the police of the candidate's country of origin or residence, if necessary translated in Greek or English. The good conduct certificate should be original and issued less than 6 months prior to the beginning of the semester for which the student is applying. The names and titles of the persons issuing and certifying the document should be clearly stated therein.

Learning Outcomes

It is expected that with completion of their studies, graduates will obtain:

  • The necessary training that will enable them to teach effectively the course of physical education in schools.
  • Knowledge and skills so that they can develop training programs in the field of sports based on training periodization principles and the multidisciplinary support of competitive sport preparation.
  • The necessary experiences to offer their services in the field of sports, recreation and health.
  • An integrated academic background and practical skills so that they can design specialised exercise programs that encapsulate the new knowledge produced and the new directions created for various population categories with a view to health and well-being.
  • Skills and abilities that will enable them to plan and organize outdoor recreational activities with the aim of developing and promoting sports tourism.
  • The necessary knowledge of the techniques, skills and methodologies for the teaching of sports in various ages with the required scientific knowledge from the sports sciences.
  • The appropriate skills that will enable them to carry out high-level research in the fields of physical education, sport and health.

  • the public sector graduates can teach in secondary education

Also, graduates have the opportunity to be employed as:

  • administrative employees to sports organizations and businesses of governmental and non-governmental sport organisations.

The program also provides the appropriate background expertise for those wishing to follow specific areas of sport and exercise studies, such as:

  • exercise physiology
  • sport management
  • sport psychology etc.

Or you can pursue a career in research. The graduates of the program are eligible to register to the Cyprus Sports Organization.
