Program Description

BSc (Hons) Chemistry Education with QTS is a fast-track route into teaching, taking just three years to be a fully qualified chemistry teacher in secondary education. This course will equip you with the skills to teach the next generation the importance of chemistry while offering a thorough foundation in the subject. It will also enable you to gain the skills needed for a career in teaching.

You can also choose to specialise in another STEM subject, giving you the unique ability to teach across two STEM disciplines.

Other accepted English language qualifications:

  • Secure English Language Test (SELT)
  • O-Level English Language or GCSE English Language: grade C or above (UK Exam board)
  • Trinity Integrated Skills in English (ISE) II: Merit or Distinction

In addition to academic qualifications, you must also:

  • Have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Disclose any criminal convictions (required by DES Circular 9/93)
  • Complete a medical pro forma (based on DFEE Circular 8/92)

  • Your numeracy and literacy competency will be assessed continuously throughout the course following the DfE’s removal of the Professional Skills Test.
  • You will be assessed on your potential to learn and not your experience.
  • If you do not have the necessary level of English you may need to take one of the University's English for Academic Purposes (EAP) University Preparation Courses before you begin your course.
