Program Description

If you enjoy mathematics and want to apply your knowledge to solve real-world business problems, then the actuarial science programme at Swansea University is an excellent route to meet your goals.

An actuary is a highly trained and influential business professional who uses advanced mathematical modelling and business understanding to analyse future risks.

Through this three-year BSc degree you will learn the deep mathematics involved in analysing risk along with a wide variety of practical business applications relevant to the actuarial profession. The programme is accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), so programme modules in mathematics, accounting, finance and economics are aligned with the IFoA professional examinations. Graduates can obtain up to six exemptions from IFoA professional examinations, which is a tremendous head start toward obtaining actuarial employment and succeeding as an actuary.

Fees for full time Undergraduate EU/International students will increase by 3% for each subsequent year of study.

Alternative Entry Qualifications:

  • A levels: grades ABB-BBB to include Mathematics. Applicants studying Further Maths will be issued a BBB offer.
  • BTEC: DDD plus grade A in A Level Mathematics.
  • International Baccalaureate: 36 to include 6 in Higher Level Mathematics.

Alternative English Language Qualifications:

  • Swansea ELTS test (SWELT): 6.0
  • INTO English Language Assessment: 169
  • CaMLA - Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE): 650
  • Euroexam @ C1 academic level: Pass

Important Information:

  • All applications will be considered on an individual basis, and we will look at the whole application when deciding whether to make an offer of a place, including: the balance, nature and quality of A-level, AS and GCSE subjects (or equivalent); personal statement and referee’s comments.
  • If you don’t have the necessary entry requirements to enter on to the first year of a degree, you may be offered a place on a degree course with an integrated foundation year.
  • For students who fall short of only the English language requirement we offer a range of pre-sessional training programmes that you may take before starting your degree programme.
