Program Description

Close collaboration with the Computer Games Design & Development course gives you the chance to gain a valuable understanding of how games are engineered, as well as experiencing team work opportunities mirroring industry practice.

The Game Art & Animation studio is fully equipped with high spec PCs featuring industry standard software such as Autodesk Maya, Motionbuilder, Toon Boom and Adobe Suite, as well as MAC facilities.

Year 1

Mandatory:
Game Art: Design, Theory and Concepts
Game Art: Planning and Production
Introduction to Animation I: Origins and Function
Introduction to Animation II: Human Locomotion
Crafting the Moving Image

Year 2

Mandatory:
Modelling, Rigging and Motion Capture
Game Production and UX Design
Narrative Workflows AND Experimental Animation

OR

one of Narrative Workflows and Experimental Animation with a choice of the recommended options:
CGI Modelling
CGI Animation
Anime
Stop Motion

Year 3

Mandatory:
Specific options will depend on whether students are major, joint honours or minor and the credits taken in subjects at Year 2.
Joint Hons will take Pre-Production Practice and up to 30 credits from Animation Options.
From Game Art, you will choose either Group Game Development Project or Game Art Individual Portfolio Project as a minimum, with further options.
